An introduction by Emma Dean...

The Tiger Common is a collective of humans – artists, freaks, weirdos, business people, teachers, professionals, shower-singers, grandparents, students and more.  Corinne Buzianczuk is our coordinator and manager.  She is so efficient, one of our students once assumed she was an ‘app’.  Tony Dean is one of our beloved teachers and also the musical assistant and accompanist for Cheep Trill choir.  One of the most talented musicians in Australia, and also my younger brother, he often gets mistaken for a young Art Garfunkel.

And then there’s me.  My name is Emma Dean.

I founded The Tiger Common because I needed a change.  I spent over a decade striving tirelessly to expose my original music to a broader audience.  I even moved to the other side of the world!  Somewhere along the way, I forgot why I fell in love with music.  After much soul searching, I remembered the reason my musical love affair began.  That reason was undeniably and unequivocally human connection.  So, at one of the lowest points in my life, I decided to move back to Brisbane and start a community choir.

My life hasn’t been the same since.

Some people may think that singing, and indeed music in general, is apolitical.  But I believe that the act of group singing and expressing creativity is fiercely and intrinsically political.  Each week, people from all walks of life, races, religions and political leanings come together – at their individual lessons or at our choir sessions – and harmonise.  This act is as profound as it is joyful, as we are forced not only to look beyond each other’s differences, but to accept and embrace them.

We sing.  We laugh.  Sometimes we cry.  And we heal… one note at a time.
